Combat
Rats usually run away. They bite only as a last resort.

Rats use their Dexterity modifier instead of their Strength modifier for Climb and Swim checks. Rats can always take 10 on Climb checks even when rushed or threatened. Rats can always take 10 on Swim checks even when rushed or threatened. They can use the run action while swimming provided they swim in a straight line.

Rats as Familiars
Rats can serve as familiars for characters eligible to obtain familiars including arcane engineers, hexblades, mind weavers, shadowsworn, sorcerers, and wizards. Arcane casters with rat familiars gain a +2 bonus to Fortitude saves.
