Campaign Design - Spells: Solid Darkness

Solid Darkness (from Nyambe: African Adventures)
Conjuration (Creation)

Level: Darkness 6, Sorcerer/Wizard 8
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 feet + 10 feet per caster level)
Target, Effect, or Area: Darkness that spreads in a 30-foot radius, 20 feet high
Duration: 1 minute per caster level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

A cloud of inky darkness billows out from the point you designate. The darkness completely obscures all sight, including Darkvision. A creature within the cloud has full concealment: All attacks suffer a 50% miss chance and attackers can't use sight to locate their target.

Solid darkness is so thick that any creature attempting to move through it progresses at one-tenth normal speed and all attack and melee damage rolls suffer a -2 penalty. The darkness prevents effective ranged weapon attacks, except for magic rays and similar magical attacks. A creature or object that falls into solid darkness is slowed, so that each 10 feet of darkness that the creature or object falls through reduces the damage of a fall by 1d6 points with a minimum damage of 0.

Solid darkness is charged with negative energy; any creatures within it suffer 1 point of negative energy damage per round with no saving throw. Undead and other negative energy creatures within the darkness are healed 1 hit point per round instead.
