A spiritwrack spell is a very powerful protection and punishment spell used against powerful creatures of the Hells. To employ the magic, the spellcaster must know the true name of the being at whom they will direct the energy. Prior to the actual utterance of a spiritwrack spell, the caster must prepare an illuminated sheet of vellum with special inks made from rubies and a gold leaf border that includes the targeted creature's true name. Crafting this document requires 8d4 hours of work. This spell does not summon the actual creature to be targeted. The caster must accomplish that by some other means. Once the infernal being is present in some form and not possessing another creature's body, the caster can then begin the actual incantation.

Immediately upon beginning the reading of the document, the named being will be rooted to the spot they occupy unless they succeed at a spell resistance check. Even if such a check is successful, the monster feels greatly uncomfortable, and if it has not been magically forced to the locale and so held there, it is 90% likely to retreat to the Hells as the fiend is powerless to attack the spellcaster while he is reciting the spell document. This first part of the document continues for one minute, with the discomfort to the named being becoming greater at the end. During the second minute of the incantation, the named being undergoes acute pain and loses 1 hit point per Hit Die. At the end of this minute of reading, the being is in wracking pain. The third and final minute of utterance of the condemnation will cause a loss to being a 50% of its existing hit points, horrible pain, and at the end consign it to some place of confinement in the Hells - there to remain in torture for a number of years equal to the caster level of the spellcaster who created the document.

The being dealt with will be the sworn foe of the caster forever afterwards, so most spellcasters are loath to finish the spell, but rather use it as a threat to force submission from the fiend. Each round of reading will cause the being forced to listen to be a cumulative 25% likely to concede even without any other offerings or payment.

Material component: An illuminated sheet of vellum inscribed in special inks made from powdered rubies and the ichor of a slain dæmon, demon, or devil and covered in gold leaf in a continuous border. The vellum, fiend ichor, and gold leaf cost a minimum of 1,000 shillings, and the powered rubies for the ink cost at least 5,000 shillings.
