Campaign Design - Spells: Crebain

Crebain (from the Player's Guide to Wizards, Bards, and Sorcerers)
Enchantment

Level: Druid/Spirit Shaman 2, Sorcerer/Wizard 3
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 feet + 10 feet per caster level)
Target, Effect, or Area: Animals in a 40 foot radius spread
Duration: Special
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

By means of this spell, you can compel several Tiny animals within the target area to spy for you. Affected creatures must be normal animals with animal intelligence such as ravens, field mice, or even trout and have ¼ Hit Dice or less. Up yo 2 Hit Dice of creatures per caster level may be so enchanted. This tally is completely separate from a druid's animal companion or an arcane caster's familiar, although an animal companion may be placed under this spell, allowing a druid's animal companion to also perform the abilities given by crebain.

Once enchanted, these creatures are able to communicate with you, using verbal sounds of somatic gestures. You can then order them to watch for intruders or search for specific items, objects, or individuals. If found, the creatures will seek you out and report back to you. The creatures can remain in a specified area or be ordered to move, either to search along a specific route or travel to a new location. You can change his orders at any time and can choose if the creatures will travel individually, in small groups, or in large packs.

This spell can be cast multiple times on different creatures, thus enabling you to have sparrows guard by day, and bats by night - but no more than the maximum Hit Dice of total creatures allowed. This enchantment is permanent so long as you provide adequate food and shelter for the animals. Should any single animal go hungry or need to seek shelter elsewhere for any reason, such as to migrate south for the winter or flee from predators, the spell is broken for that animal. You will always know precisely how many animals are under your control.

Material component: A morsel of food.
