Campaign Design - Spells: Ethereal Bolt

Ethereal Bolt (from Relics & Rituals)
Evocation [Force]

Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 2
Components: V, S, F
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 feet + 10 feet per caster level) or (50 feet + 5 feet per caster level)
Target, Effect, or Area: 5-foot wide to (100 feet + 10 feet per caster level) or 10 feet wide to (50 feet + 5 feet per caster level)
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex half
Spell Resistance: Yes

A bolt of translucent, blue-white energy shoots from the caster's fingertips, much as a lightning bolt would, but the ethereal bolt only damages incorporeal creatures that exist in the ethereal plane. The ethereal bolt does 1d10 points of force damage per level (maximum 5d10) or half damage if a target makes a Reflex save.

The energy released by this spell exists primarily on the ethereal plan. As such, it has no effect whatsoever upon creatures or objects in the physical plane. The bolt will ignore corporeal walls, doors, armor, items, and normal creatures.

The spell does not empower the caster to see into the ethereal plane or through solid objects.

Focus: The eye of a creature with a gaze attack.
