Campaign Design - Spells: Forge Rock

Forge Rock (adapted from Gods)

Level: Druid/Spirit Shaman 6, Foraging 6
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 minute per pound of material to be transformed
Range: Touch
Target, Effect, or Area: 10 pounds of touched stone per caster level
Duration: One day per caster level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

Lack of metal can be a serious problem for some folk, as it prevents them from crafting proper tools and weapons. The spell ironwood may not be of much use either, due to a lack of good wood in their area. Rocks are easy to find, though, and so forge rock can come in quite handy. This spell temporarily transforms ordinary rock so that it has the material strength of steel. Spells that affect metal (such as heat metal) do not affect rock treated by forge rock, but neither do spells that affect rock (such as soften earth and stone). Using this spell with stone-related Craft checks allows one to craft weapons, shields, and perhaps even armor from rock that has the striking power and durability of steel.

If you make only half as much transmuted rock as the spell allows, any weapon, shield, or armor crafted from it is treated as a masterwork item.
