Campaign Design - Spells: Spirit Spear

Spirit Spear (adapted from the Shaman's Handbook)
Evocation [Force]

Level: Druid/Spirit Shaman 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Medium (100 feet + 10 feet per caster level)
Target, Effect, or Area: One spear plus one spear for every 2 caster levels above 3rd
Duration: 30 minutes or until discharged
Saving Throw: Will half
Spell Resistance: Yes

You create a spear of mystic energy in your hand that you can throw at any target within range. The spear strikes unerringly and does 1d8+1 points of damage (half on a successful Will save) and an additional 1d8 points if the target is a spirit. Since it is a force effect, the spear can hit ethereal creatures like spirits, but it has no effect on inanimate objects.

For every two caster levels beyond 3rd, the shaman can throw an additional spirit spear, one per attack action, until his allotment of spears is exhausted. Throwing a spirit spear does not provoke an attack of opportunity once the spell is cast. A caster "holding" remaining spirit spears is considered to be holding a discharge spell, consequently casting another spell immediately dissipates any remaining spirit spears.
