Campaign Design - Spells: Resize Magic Arms and Armor

Resize Magic Arms and Armor
Divination

Casting Time: 1 day
Range: Touch
Target, Effect, or Area: One magic weapon or suit of magic armor
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

Unlike other types of magic items, magic arms and armor do not automatically resize to suit those who own them. This spell allows magically inclined craftsmen to alter the size of a magic weapon or a suit of magical armor. Through the use of powerful transmutation magic and a combination of alchemical oils and reagents, the caster may alter the size of the affected magic weapon or armor by one size category, up or down (at the caster's choice).

Casters with the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat may successfully cast this spell without further effort. Casters who do not have the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat must make a Craft check with the applicable crafting skill (usually Craft: Armorsmith, Craft: Bowyer, or Craft: Weaposmith) with a DC equal to 20 + the effective bonus of the magic item (i.e. a suit of +1 magic armor would require a DC 21 Craft: Armorsmithing check to resize with this spell). If this Craft check fails, the spell does not work and the material components are wasted, but the magic item is unaffected.

A caster with the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat may elect to make the applicable Craft check in order to alter the size of the affected item by two size categories.

A caster may imbue another individual with the power to make the applicable Craft check. Casters who regularly use this spell often work with one or more master craftsmen for exactly this purpose.

Focus: A set of masterwork tools appropriate to the magic item being resized.

Material component: Alchemical oils, reagents, and admixtures with a value equal to one-tenth the creation cost of the item to be resized.
